Information

The Grid 2 allows you to communicate using words, pictures or symbols. This is done by building or editing existing examples that can be moved to an area at the top of the screen, ready to be spoken either as single words or sentences. The number of symbols that come with the software is limited, but there is an additional symbol set which is available separately. Alternatively, picture and communication symbols (PECS) can be imported, so you can customise it as you wish. The program scans custom made grids that emulate the keyboard and mouse, allowing you to access almost any PC software with just 1 or 2 switches.

The Grid 2 offers simplified built-in programs that allow users to write letters, emails, browse the internet, send SMS text messages (Bluetooth enabled computer and phone required) and play music and other media files all through switch access.

In addition, there are custom made grids that work with specific programs such as Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, and also a set of grids designed to interface with an environmental control system.

The Grid 2 makes it much easier to create, edit, organise, save, import, export and print your own grids than in The Grid 1. Cells can be resized and dragged around the grids easily. Symbols and pictures can be easily added to cells along with the relevant text. The Grid 2 also makes it easy to create “action” cells that give the computer certain commands such as “speak all the text” etc. Cells can have multiple commands added to them so with the click of one cell the computer can be told to do many things in a set order.

The Grid 2 also offers new ways to scan through the cells in a grid. These can reduce the amount of time spent waiting by the user by block scanning larger parts of the grid and then scanning the selected parts of the grid in more detail.
