SuperNova

SuperNova combines magnification, screen-reading and Braille output functions in one complete package. It is very flexible, with a large range of adjustable settings for the magnification, speech and Braille features. This allows the right features to be set up for each person using it.

I think it's great for when you need to use the computer but only have a small screen. Without it I have to be very close to the screen and strain my eyes to read the writing. I'd recommend it to anyone with a visual impairment. Being able to change how much you would like it to zoom in is very good because lots of things are too small especially on web sites.

Information

SuperNova combines magnification, speech and Braille to provide computer access for all ages. SuperNova can be set up at both a basic and an advanced level, and is an ideal way for a visually impaired child to access a computer.

Magnification settings range from 2x to 60x, and the magnified text and images are smooth and clear. SuperNova ensures that a suitable level can be found for all. There is a choice of screen magnification styles, including whole screen and split screen, allowing you to customise your view. The program also contains options for adjusting the screen colours to increase or decrease contrast, and problem colours can be changed anywhere on the screen.

The program includes adjustable text-to speech options which control the amount of detail given by the screen-reader. There is a choice of voices available, all of which can be customised. Screen-reading features help you to use Microsoft Windows, and give you control over the presentation of your documents. The Virtual Focus tool allows you to browse web pages as if you were using the mouse.

SuperNova allows output to a Braille device, putting text and graphical information at your fingertips. The program can support computer or literary Braille (Grade 1 or 2), and works automatically with a wide range of Braille displays and note takers. Other features include programmable Braille hot keys to speed up operation, keyboard shortcuts for most of the important features and settings, and an on-screen Braille display.

It's very good. I'd say it's a big help for my son. It has to be big for him. I load it up for him when he uses the computer.
