Review
The Roller II and Roller Plus Roller balls are strong, robust rollerballs, with guarded buttons and a sunk ball.
The guarded buttons and sunk ball make the rollerballs easier to use by people with motor control problems, who have problems targeting the buttons, or who knock the ball on other rollers when trying to press the buttons - the Guard can be removed if that makes operating the rollerball easier
The Roller II has a big red ball and 3 buttons, yellow for left click, blue for right click and green for drag lock. It also has switch inputs at the back for all 3 buttons, enabling standard switches to be used instead of the buttons. The 4 colours in use make this ideal for people with learning difficulties/developmental delay who are starting to use a pointing device as they will often learn colours before left and right.
The Roller Plus has been designed with a more advanced user in mind. It has a blue ball with 6 grey buttons. As well as the 3 on the Roller II, it features a double click button, x-y lock button (which allow only up/down or left/right movements of the pointer) and a button to control the pointer speed. These extra buttons can assist users with more severe motor control problems. The Roller Plus also comes with a serial switch box which plugs into the back, and allows you to use 5 of the buttons (not speed) with switches.
Both Rollerballs have screw holes underneath allowing them to be attached to a surface or wheelchair tray
The Roller II and Roller Plus have been designed with robustness and usability in mind, and therefore aren’t the most stylish rollerballs available. They are also quite expensive when compared with other rollerballs.
