Visual impairment

Software for the blind and visually impaired has always been expensive and unfortunately this trend is continuing if not worsening. There are other possible options for visually impaired users who are at the mild end of the spectrum such as standard screen readers aimed at the literacy market and altering Windows settings, which will vastly reduce the cost, though there are many people that won’t be able to use this option.

Software for the blind and visually impaired is packaged in one of three ways – a screen reader that will speak out loud what is displayed on the screen, a screen magnifier that will magnify a portion of the screen and display it in the other portion at a user defined size and a combination of both screen reader and magnifier.
