Thanks to generous donations, Aidis maintains a library of equipment and software that is available for loan to disabled people. A recent study carried out by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation into disabled computer users included a quote from one user who said:

“I have extremely weak arms and hands and find the mouse difficult and I have tried a few........The ones I bought prove difficult after a short period of use and returning them can be difficult and it’s too expensive to keep buying new and to try. Somewhere that lent them in one’s own home to try would help.”

This is just one reason for the existence of our loan library. This particular problem is not one we often encounter as our appraisals and the 90% daily usage they indicate tell us that our assessors do a good job in determining precisely what is appropriate to each individual.

A more pressing reason for the maintenance of a loan library is the immediate urgency of some cases. In cases where someone is unable to communicate without technology, Aidis' library enables a quick solution to be found whilst funds are being raised to pay for equipment in the long term.
