Who we are

The Aidis Trust was founded in 1975 to help disabled people communicate more easily and effectively through technology. Today, Aidis continues to enable the development and social inclusion of disabled people.

Aidis works to improve the lives of disabled people through communication aids, computers, and the special assistive technology that disabled people need to use them. Assistive technology can be, for example, larger keyboards, head pointers or specialist software such as magnification and screen-reading software for the visually impaired.

Aidis is a small charity with eleven members of staff who are both personally and professionally committed to improving the lives of disabled people.

Using Technology to Improve the Lives of Disabled People

Aidis gives advice, assessment, installation, and, perhaps most importantly, training and support to disabled people. Over the last year Aidis has helped over 2,000 disabled people, approximately two-thirds of whom were children.

In the 31 years Aidis has been helping disabled people, perhaps the most important lesson we have learned is that computers and specialist technology on their own are of no use whatsoever. It is essential that people are trained to make the equipment work for them and are supported in their endeavours. We have had great success in achieving this over the last five years, with over 90% of our clients using equipment we provide every day.

We are currently expanding our training and support services and our programme of workshops in order to help more people and reduce the isolation and social exclusion felt by the disabled people for whom we exist to help.
