Big Red Twist switch - Large round, 5 inch diameter switch, excellent for people with poor targeting skills
Big Red Twist Switch
The Big Red Twist Switch is a 5 inch diameter switch that comes with interchangeable tops to make the switch either red, blue, yellow or green. Why call it a Red Switch, I suppose that's the twist! Actually, this is probably to prevent confusion with its predecessor, The Big Red Switch (though even this switch was available in different colours, it just didn't have the interchangeable tops).
Anyway, what's in a name? The switch, as with the Jelly Bean switch (not made of jelly of course) is mountable onto a VFA mounting arm via a switch plate due to its 3 mounting holes, drilled into its base. Alternatively, it can be mounted using the Maxess mounting system using Velcro. This is a good idea if you need careful positioning other than it being placed in front of you on a desk or chair tray or if when you hit the switch, you find it slides off in another direction due to its shiny, slippery plastic base.
The switch itself is pretty sturdy, though we have found that it can be slightly unresponsive for people with a slight touch, pressing on the edge of the switch. Even with the variable pressure switch version, the lightest setting needs the same force as this switch does.
As with all switches, it can be used to plug directly into a rollerball or joystick that has switch input. However, if the switch is to be used in conjunction with switch software, then you will need a switch interface. There a a few different types that can be found in the Switch Accessories section of the Review Centre.
