Penfriend XP, A powerful tool for people with dyslexia and physical disabilities or delayed learning, adding word prediction and speech to almost any other software. This software comes along with, Word Prediction, On-screen Keyboard, Speech Synthesiser and Abbreviations. Penfriend even works with Clicker 5, to provide a complete switch-access writing environment. If you have Clicker installed, you could use it to provide suggested words, part-made sentences or graphic content for documents.
Word Prediction will work with your word processor and most other text entry software titles. It tries to guess the word you are typing in its
own prediction window after you have entered the first letter, the second, and so on. One key press or mouse click can then finish the word for you. Word Prediction is theoretically useful for people who can read all of the suggestions faster than they can type another letter. Their slowness may be due to physical problems or doubt, so a fair number of people prefer the word prediction.
There is also a Penfriend XL software, which comes with 9 languages as well as Screen Reading, Screen Keyboard and Next Word Prediction, where the program will attempt to guess the next possible word to help with sentence production. The program allows you to work with any of your favourite word processing packages. It incorporates text-to-speech features to help with pronunciation, and a scalable on-screen keyboard for those who find it easier to type with pointer control or by using a keyboard shortcut. The on-screen keyboard are valuable both for those with dyslexia and those who can not use a keyboard. Whereas Penfriend XP incorporates customisable word lists, and is able to learn new words from the clipboard, or words that are typed whilst the program is running.
